Deputies responding to a 911 call about a "gunshot trauma" at the ranch learned the gun had been handed to an armorer, a worker who handles weapons for a movie set, following the shooting. According to the affidavit, the armorer had taken the spent casing out of the gun. https://www.santafenewmexican.com/news/local_news/affidavit-offers-new-details-on-baldwin-shooting-that-killed-cinematographer/article_73bc2302-334d-11ec-b2b6-6f5fe3cd1edd.html
“Ried said Alec made sure it was safe and that a child wasn’t near him when they were discharging a firearm during that scene,” the search warrant affidavit says.
Barkan, 31, said he’s fired a prop gun about 20 times. Each time, he added, the armorer and assistant director were heavily involved in ensuring the gun was safe to use.
Normally, the process begins with an armorer bringing the gun to the director or assistant director to show nothing is inside, he said. Then it is brought to the actor with the assistant director, who often shines a light through it to show an empty barrel and chamber.
Gutierrez Reed’s lawyer Jason Bowles said in a statement Wednesday that “we are convinced this was sabotage and Hannah is being framed. We believe that the scene was tampered with as well before the police arrived.”

“The scene did not call for Defendant Baldwin to shoot the Colt Revolver, which should not have contained any live ammunition,” the lawsuit said, adding that Baldwin should have known to “double-check” the gun after assistant director Halls.
“We are convinced that this was sabotage and Hannah is being framed. We believe that the scene was tampered with as well before the police arrived,” Bowles said in his statement. “This morning we offered to share additional, critical information with the Sheriff’s Office and are awaiting their response.”
It was unclear how many rounds were fired, and there was little information released about the weapon.

Worker in charge of Alec Baldwin’s prop was replacement hire amid on-set chaos, safety concerns
"This idea my client grabbed the gun and handed it to Baldwin absolutely did not happen," she said, but later backtracked and dodged questions about whether Halls handed the gun to Baldwin, despite McCallum asking whether Halls "doesn’t know if he handed the gun to Alec Baldwin."
"She fought for training, days to maintain weapons, and proper time to prepare for gunfire but ultimately was overruled by production and her department. The whole production set became unsafe due to various factors, including lack of safety meetings. This was not the fault of Hannah."
