Far-Left Democrats Vote Against Democracy for Cuban People

Forty far-left Democrats voted late Wednesday against a congressional resolution supporting democracy for the Cuban people as they fight against the country’s authoritarian government.

The resolution, which was led by Democrats, expressed “solidarity with Cuban citizens demonstrating peacefully for fundamental freedoms” and also condemned “the Cuban regime’s acts of repression, and [called] for the immediate release of arbitrarily detained Cuban citizens,” according to a copy of the measure.

The measure passed by a vote of 382 to 40, with only far-left Democrats declining to support democracy in Cuba. The vote is another sign of the Democratic Party’s leftward lurch and embrace of socialism. In past years, a vote of this nature would have handily passed the House with support from every member of both parties.

Those voting against the measure included members of the “Squad” and other left-wing House members who are known for backing socialism and pushing an anti-Israel agenda. This includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.), Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.), and Cori Bush (D., Mo.), among others.
