An officer who fatally shot a 20-year-old black man outside Minneapolis on Sunday accidentally pulled out her gun instead of a taser, according to police.

Body camera footage reveals the officer pull her service pistol on Daunte Wright, 20, as he was resisting arrest around 10 miles from where George Floyd was killed last year by a Minneapolis police officer.

“This appears to me, from what I viewed in the officer’s reaction and distress immediately after, that this was an accidental discharge that resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Wright,” said Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon in a Monday press conference.

Attorney Will Chamberlain said that the incident constitutes ‘gross negligence’ and ‘involuntary manslaughter’ in his opinion.
