A.I. now taking drive-thru orders; human workforce in decline

It’s not science fiction anymore that robots are replacing human workers. The ongoing pandemic has triggered a decline in the U.S. workforce, and robots are beginning to take advantage of the new positions. The question is: how long will humans last?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the leisure and hospitality industry suffered a loss of 61,000 jobs in January, leading to the worst plunge of the month.

The retail and trade sector sustained a total loss of 37,800 jobs, according to the bureau report.

Not to mention, transportation, warehousing, and manufacturing also suffered a loss of 37,000 workers, adding to the problem.

Now, a popular Miami Valley restaurant is taking advantage of the lull and is incorporating artificial intelligence (A.I.) into the mix, per see.

The Ohio-based company is using an A.I. system in the drive-thru that helps to speed up order times.

“The Artificial Intelligence order taker will greet the customer, take their order and enter the order directly into the register system,” a spokesperson for the franchise told members of the press. “Employees in the restaurant will be able to listen to every transaction through existing headsets and intervene in case an issue arises during the order process.”

Far Hills Development, LLC operates the technology which can also scan license plates of vehicles as they pass thru and great customers by their name.

In closing, it’s safe to assume that we as a civilization have crossed the threshold of no return. From here on out, things will be murky. These are new waters, and they are unchartered. Assuming that greed will get the best of man, the outcome will likely not be favorable.

The question is: how long before humans are made obsolete?
