Trump defense attorney Michael van der Veen holds CBS News anchor accountable over ‘doctored evidence’

Former President Donald Trump’s defense attorney Michael van der Veen told CBS News anchor Lana Zak on Monday that prosecutors had doctored evidence by changing the date of a Tweet and adding a checkmark in an attempt to validate a false narrative.

The Philadelphia-based attorney said that the impeachment trial was “all political rhetoric” that is not too far away from what happened at the 6 January insurection on the U.S. Capitol.

“The prosecutors, in this case, doctored evidence,” he said. “They did not investigate this case and when they had to come to the court of the Senate to put their case on — because they hadn’t done any investigation they doctored the evidence.”

Zak then attempted to justify prosecutors’ actions by acting as if changing the date of a Tweet and adding a blue checkmark was par for the course.

Firing back at the CBS News anchor, van der Veen made it clear that it’s not okay to doctor evidence on any scale.

Wait, wait, wait — that’s not enough for you?” he asked. “… it’s no okay to doctor a little bit of evidence, respectfully.”

“Ma’am, your question is turned,” he explained. “The media has to start telling the right story in this country. The media is trying to divide this country. You are bloodthirsty for ratings and as such you’re asking questions now that are already set up with a fact pattern.”

“I can’t believe you would ask me a question indicating that it’s alright just to doctor a little bit of evidence,” he said. “There’s more stuff that we uncovered that they doctored, to be frank with you and perhaps that will come out one day.”

The 57-year-old attorney said the media should be looking at the House managers in “a square straight way.”

  1. Why aren’t these prosecutors in jail, this is a crime by the highest office of law and yet a google search of why they are not jailed b4 the court recessed is non existent! These prosecutors should have been arrested and yet they have the nerve to continue prosecuting anything? The only reason this could happen is they are all in above their heads with corruption so much that it’s not even entered their minds. WOW,….
