“I’m so sorry,” interviewer Liz Landers said. “Are you okay?”
Carlson, clad in a red “Make America Great Again” hat, reacted calmly and proceeded to clean off his glasses.
“I’m fine. I’m fine,” Carlson said.
Two witnesses of the attack, who appeared to be fellow protesters, apologized to Carlson.
A man in the video told Carlson the protester was disrespectful, but equated the gesture to wearing a red cap.
“That’s not how people really feel, that is f—ing disrespectful. But on the other hand, that sh— is disrespectful as f— too,” he said, gesturing to the hat. “So there’s a difference.”
“I respect your opinion,” Carlson responded.
Carlson laughed off the incident and said, “that’s all right.”
“You have a better attitude about that than I would,” Landers told Carlson.
Landers appeared shocked by the incident and asked Carlson if he was surprised by the attack.
“That did surprise me a little bit,” Carlson said.
